You've lost me a little bit here, Fernando.

If there were Democrats that said they could handle an oil spill better than Republicans, or claimed to have a "magic solution" (Who were these Democrats?) then I completely agree with you, that that was a silly thing to say.

Perhaps it would be illustrative for us and a little less confusing for me if you could provide a link to the Democrats that you're referring to.

"LaurenceB; In other words, my default position is (contrary to crazy leftists) that BP is doing everything it can, and that (contrary to crazy rightists) so is Obama."

The democrats always pushed the idea that they could handle an oil spill better.

At least that is how it was perceived, and then came an oil spill.
Rather larger than either of us could believe.

Democrats kept silent, nothing on the spill. Till a Republican heard the deafening silence and typed out several words.

Where are the democrats? Where is there magic solution? The politics of an oil spill reversed on the democrats. :)

According to several sources the right-wing talking points in this WSJ opinion piece are B.S. Here are a few:

http://www.epa.gov/oem/content/reporting/oilexem.htm
http://www.factcheck.org/2010/06/oil-spill-foreign-help-and-the-jones-act/
http://www.kansascity.com/2010/06/30/2055268/gops-false-talking-point-jones.html

I freely admit to not being an expert on oil spill regulations, and don't intend to become one, so I haven't studied this thoroughly. That having been said, my general feeling is that the WSJ is probably mostly wrong or entirely wrong just on the grounds that a fast and efficient clean up is in the best interest of the Administration. In other words, my default position is (contrary to crazy leftists) that BP is doing everything it can, and that (contrary to crazy rightists) so is Obama.
