Yes, he is. Not all but certainly some.

Some public schools in the inner cities, especially those of Los Angeles, Compton, Lynwood, and other ghettos have metal detectors as you walk into the school, but of course many kids find ways to sneak in the guns anyways. My guess is that McCain has those schools in mind.

Clinton and Obama probably have the public schools in the rich neighborhood they grew up in mind. Two different worlds, two different public schools.

“I find it beyond hypocritical,” Mr. McCain continues, “that many of those who would refuse to allow public school parents to choose their child’s school would never agree to force their own children into a school that did not work or was unsafe.”

HP - It is often difficult to understand what McCain is trying to say - is it that he is claiming that public schools are unsafe or don't work? He is overlooking, for example, the IB schools in low income areas that are providing an education for our students on par with (as measured by our IB exams) any such elite schools in the world. Yes, our school is also program improvement, given the twisted way the AYPs are calculated. Yet our AVID students (first generation college bound) are qualifying for university entrance in record numbers. Even better than the 4s and 5s on AP exams or the pass rates on IB exams, I am impressed by the AVID students who are accepted at universities but denied EOP status because they are judged fully ready to succeed at the university, based on the courses they successfully completed at our high school and their own track record.
